Peewee Rep League Champs!

Peewee Rep Team finishes their 2016-17 Season with an Overtime Win on Friday night in Creemore to take their Georgian Bay Minor Hockey League Championship.

The Peewee Rep Golden Hawks had not won against the Creemore Valley Hawk Peewees in four previous games this season.

Game 1 of the League Championship was played on Monday in Flesherton and again the Valley Hawks prevailed with a  5-2 win.

Down 1-0 in a Best-of-Three series, the Flesherton boys played one of their best games of the year and outscored the Creemore Peewees 6-1 with some great play by Thomas Campbell, Manny Brinton and Nolan MacMillan.

On Friday, after a long week of hockey (and basketball for these multi-disciplined athletes) and a short bench, that included our only Atom AP Brayden Tremblay, the team headed back to Creemore.

Our boys struck first with a goal from Captain Ben Groves 4 minutes into the first. The Creemore team fought back, tying the game 4 minutes into the second frame. Then on a power play, the Creemore Valley Hawks went ahead of Flesherton 2-1 half way through the third period. The Flesherton Hawks kept coming and after some great work by the newly formed “kid line” of  Andrew Stephens, Tyler Thompson and Julian Hartman, the boys were able to get a face off in the Creemore end. The boys took advantage and Brad Curry made no mistake in tying the game 2-2 with just five minutes to play in the third. Nothing could be decided in regulation as the defensive trio of Scotty Breedon, Cole Miskie and Josh Dixon shut down the pressing Creemore boys. After testing Flesherton goalie Nathan MacMillan to make some great saves in the overtime period, the Golden Hawks were able to get the puck deep in the Creemore end and after some great chances, Ben Groves, with assists from Brad Curry and Liam MacDowell, struck again with the last goal of season tucking the puck short side post to win the game!

Congratulations to Creemore on a great series and giving us a great a challenge all season long!

The Peewee Rep Hawks season ended with a winning record of 20 wins, 16 losses and 1 tie.

Congratulations boys on a great season, working hard and never giving up!
